Semi-markov Pepa: Modelling with Generally Distributed Actions

چکیده

Since the advent of Markovian Process Algebras, users have requested the ability to employ a greater variety of action distribution. We present a conservative extension to the popular Markovian process algebra, PEPA, which incorporates generally distributed sojourn-times for action duration. Just as a PEPA model generates a Markov chain for analysis purposes, so semi-Markov PEPA produces a semi-Markov chain. We discuss how semiMarkov PEPA models are analysed through Dingle and Knottenbelt’s semi-Markov DNAmaca tool and present a small example for passage time analysis.

Bio-PEPAd: A non-Markovian extension of Bio-PEPA

Delays in biological systems may be used to model events for which the underlying dynamics cannot be precisely observed, or to provide abstraction of some behavior of the system resulting in more compact models. In this paper we enrich the stochastic process algebra Bio-PEPA, with the possibility of assigning delays to actions, yielding a new non-Markovian stochastic process algebra: Bio-PEPAd....

Derivation of Passage-time Densities in PEPA Models using ipc: the Imperial PEPA Compiler

We present a technique for defining and extracting passage-time densities from high-level stochastic process algebra models. Our high-level formalism is PEPA, a popular Markovian process algebra for expressing compositional performance models. We introduce ipc, a tool which can process PEPA-specified passage-time densities and models, by compiling the PEPA model and passage specification into t...

Compositional Markovian Modelling Using A Process Algebra

We introduce a stochastic process algebra, PEPA, as a high-level modelling paradigm for continuous time Markov chains (CTMC). Process algebras are mathematical theories which model concurrent systems by their algebra and provide apparatus for reasoning about the structure and behaviour of the model. Recent extensions of these algebras, associating random variables with actions, make the models ...

Experiences of Using the Pepa Performance Modelling Tools with a Non-repudiation Protocol

In this paper, we described a experience of using PEPA eclipse plug-in tool to specify a functional-equivalent representation of a non-repudiation protocol. The model is specified using Markovian process algebra PEPA. The basic model suffers from the well known state space explosion problem when tackled using Continues Time Markov Chain analysis. In order to modelling in a scalable way, functio...

Contextual lumpability

Quantitative analysis of computer systems is often based on Markovian models. Among the formalisms that are used in practice, Markovian process algebras have found many applications, also thanks to their compositional nature that allows one to specify systems as interacting individual automata that carry out actions. Nevertheless, as with all state-based modelling techniques, Markovian process ...
